Home Learning

Home learning is an exciting opportunity for all Year 1–6 students.

Instead of traditional homework sheets, we offer meaningful challenges designed to be fun, engaging, and connected to the New Zealand Curriculum. These challenges encourage responsibility, celebrate extra-curricular activities, and help grow a real love of learning.

Participation is optional, but students who complete the required number of challenges by the end of the year will receive a Summerland Values certificate. Those who complete challenges across Years 4–6 earn a special pounamu award at our Celebration of Excellence.

The challenges focus on five key areas:

  • Giving

  • Service in School & Community

  • Physical Activity & Outdoors

  • Academic Excellence

  • Excellence in the Arts

Some examples of challenges are:

  • Preparing a meal for your family

  • Collecting rubbish to give back to the community and nature

  • Join a school community group for at least 2 terms e.g. choir, kapa haka

  • Learn a new craft

  • Complete in a sport for a season
