Welcome to the Summerland Primary School
We provide a warm and welcoming school with strong values and a strong academic focus. It has been said that an excellent primary school can give a child a great foundation that carries them through to many years after they have left. We strive to be that excellent school.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school and working alongside you to achieve the very best outcomes for each student.

Home Learning
Home learning is an exciting opportunity for all Year 1–6 students.
Instead of traditional homework sheets, we offer meaningful challenges designed to be fun, engaging, and connected to the New Zealand Curriculum. These challenges encourage responsibility, celebrate extra-curricular activities, and help grow a real love of learning.

Math and literacy
Our Approach to Teaching Mathematics
At Summerland, we teach mathematics using the Maths — No Problem! programme, supported by a whole class Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) approach. Our teaching is grounded in research and neuroscience, ensuring every child has the best chance to understand, master, and retain mathematical concepts over time.

Specialist Classes
The art room is always a hive of creative activity.
Over the year each syndicate will have the opportunity to work in the art room developing art works that link to other curriculum areas. The classroom teachers will work closely with Janet to teach art skills, and give the students opportunity and experience in creating their own art work.
