Welcome to Team 29

My name is Sophie Duval, I have lived in New Zealand for four years since moving over from the UK and am the class teacher for Room 29 with an amazing team of Year 2 children.

I am really looking forward to teaching your children this year. Please find some information below with a few reminders and also introducing myself.

About Me

I am from England, just outside of London and taught for three years in the UK before going travelling to New Zealand, Fiji and Australia. After living in Australia for a year, I decided to move to New Zealand. I have fallen in love with this beautiful country and am now in my fourth year here. I have a schnauzer puppy named Blue and am also a qualified Zumba instructor as well as running the school Jump Jam program. In my spare time I enjoy going for walks and brunch, discovering different beaches, hula hooping, playing guitar and keeping fit. I’m also a huge music fan.

As a teacher, I feel it is incredibly important to build a strong rapport together as a class as well as with each individual child so that the children feel valued, safe and comfortable at school. A happy child is a child who learns. I always aim to provide a fun learning environment where the children feel confident to take risks and always teach that it’s ok to make mistakes as we learn and grow from them.

Show and Tell

Each day in the afternoon, we will be having Show and Tell before home time, sometimes based around a theme we have looked at in class. This is a great way for the children to develop further confidence in their speaking and listening skills. Each child is able to show and tell once per week. The theme for this week and next will be ‘My Summer Holidays’. If you would like to send in any pictures for your child to show us, please feel free to email these to me or via Seesaw.

Important info this term…

  • Children must bring hats to school to play outside and should have sunscreen on prior to coming in in the morning
  • Drink bottles must be brought in each day
  • Stationery packs are coming in – if you would like to cover and label these, I shall hand them out at home time on Friday.
