Room 28 - Tania Gumtau

Welcome to Room 28 of Summerland Primary School

Kia ora and welcome to room 28,

Summerland has been a part of me for about 14 years! Two years ago I began teaching in a shared role with Shannon Pulman and last year I had my very own class. Prior to that I was a Learning Assistant and the ESOL teacher.

Summerland is a huge part of my whanau. I live locally with my two children. My son was a foundation pupil and now teaches students AFL (Aussie Rules Football) throughout the Auckland region. My daughter teaches in an Early Childhood centre in Rosedale, Albany after studying to become a nanny.

An area of personal interest for my own practice is collaborating with students and whanau to develop their communication, social skills and independence. In order to grow these life skills I run a PML (Plan My Learning) centred classroom. Weekly tasks are managed by students and any consequences are their responsibility too. I'm excited to share my learning about how the brain works and a positive mindset can be a precursor for success.

Please connect with myself and your child through the Seesaw app, available for both Apple and Android mobile devices or Apple and Windows PC's.

I look forward to learning and teaching your child this year.
