This page will be monitored by Luke Sumich, and I look forward to your correspondence. I have started the thread by typing a letter left in the school letterbox in May 05. Hi Summerland. I just wanted to write this quick note to let you know how impressed I was at todays cross country. I was so impressed for a number of reasons but mostly because of the WONDERFUL school spirit and atmosphere all the students and staff have created at the school. Everyone participated and did so happily, when a child fell over they continued, there was no mocking from other students, no laughing and often the first person to jump forward and help was another student, it was wonderful to see the children supporting one another and genuinely caring about others. It is such an achievement to have a happy and safe school like yours. There have been times in the past when my child has been given the opportunity to come home early for one reason or another and he has always chosen to stay at school. It is a great situation to be able to send my child to school and not have to worry about bullying or such thing. It is especially a relief for us after watching what some of our relatives go through with their children and bullying in their schools. So a big CONGRATULATIONS to all the staff and students for creating a happy, safe and supportive environment for each other and THANK YOU. anon.

To all the classes and students that i met at summerland i enjoyed talking to you all and it was great to see that you all had a good time on the wheelchairs.... i told you that i was going to the USA for some Worldchampoinships Games ....Well i am back and now i am ranked second in the World now.... i am so happy but i still have some more work to be done to get to number 1 thankyou for all the nice cards that i got in the mail......

I wish all of you the best in life ....dreams are to come ture but you must work for them.

Hi Summerland. I have enjoyed looking at your website and it really looks as though you have a great time at school on New Zealand. I teach in Thrapston in England and one of my lovely pupils has just started at your school-Beth Taylor with her brother Kingsley. I am sure she will have a great time but could you tell them that all their friends in Thrapston Primary School say hi and hope they settle in really quickly.

Well its great to see that all that good teaching i gave you in 1995 while you were in 5th form has led to computer competence. capital letters at the start of sentences Filimone. Great to see ex students who still care even when they are 25. Have a great year and look after your new baby Raeina.

Hi everyone at Summerland School.
I'm Courtney and Oliver Evison's dad and I'm in Jamaica for two weeks presenting training. Jamaica is a beautiful place with and the Jamaican's are very friendly. There are 2.7 m people in this country and it is very hot. The most common saying in Jamaica is "no problem".
I hope you are all enjoying term 4.

Hi my son will turn 5 on October 2 2007. All I need to know is will you take him in for the last term and what is the cut-off date to apply for this year and especially for him starting in the 4th term.

As long as you meet the requirements of the zone you will be sweet. Children start on their 5th birthday, its a NZ tradition. Some schools have children starting in groups on set dates.

Hi guys. I miss you all so much. I love being in my new school and Joshua is doing really well playing rugby and soccer. Don't know why there is so many comments here, but just want to say hi to all the teachers, "Hi!!!".
Anyway, concern 1, I don't know why people are saying I moved to Australia or I'm going back to Taiwan forever, when I was walking home and saw some of the friends from Summerland.
There is so many version and I'm staying in N.Z until I finish the school and going back to Taiwan was only for a holiday! Concern 2,
Iwonder who won the rest of the awards and cups, oh, and also the senior speech.

Here the vision was obvious without being thrashed and in your face. Kids were unbelievable at sharing their work and their pride in the school.Thewhole school yelled "colour" from the principal to the paint on the walls. Passionate teachers in evidence and the kids loved them. They had a wide knowledge of ICT and classes were using ICT purposefully. ICT was clearly integrated and not just being on show for the Apple Bus Tour. The literacy was well linked to the ICT. Mutual respect and genuine sense of team - staff and children. Whanau groups (pods) worked really well. The guides took real pride in their pod and knew exactly what was going on in all classes. The after school programmes were awesome. Great software used.Art work and classroom displays were just stunning. Great deal on colour printing obviously. Fun school - made you wish you worked there. Teacher offices were good - they joined two rooms together. The number of computersin classes was great, well used and up to 10-11 in Year 5-6 classes.

Relaxed environment, which meant motivated learners, both staff and pupils.
Leadership, showing that everyone was valued and had things to offer, knowing students by name and taking a real interest in what the children are doing. Resources freely available which makes everything less stressful. Free hand to try things. Not a top down management system. Continuing learning cycle within this school, with both staff and pupils involving themselves. Pod grouping which gave it a very caring environment, allowing for respect and co-operation. Pods allowed for variety of ways to plan. Not dictated to. Strong language focus within inquiry programme. Loved buddy system, allowing for teacher to be more a facilatator and children experience succss. Children take responsibility for many things including learning. Outdoor area brillant for other teaching. Classroom environment great, office space and storage between. Brilant use of space. Teaching space was exactly that! Whole environment was wonderful! !!!!!

I reaqlly enjoy going to SUMMERLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL because Mr Sumich arangess cool trips for us and all the teachers are very nice and you get to meet new people..I really like this school and the teachers...

She is a new teacher to our school, she has come from elm park school in howick. She is experienced at year four level and is a very fine teacher with excellent references. She is highly motivated and very current with her teaching. Im certain your son will have a great year. Regards Luke
