The students from Room 16 have spent months learning about poupou (carvings of ancestors placed along the inside walls of te whare whakairo - the carved Maori meeting house), we had lots of fabulous expert advice from Mrs Shepherd. Poupou are male and female carvings and often include interesting aspects of the ancestors life. To get to the mixed media art works they went through a design and construction process that included sketching, carving into clay slabs and creating the art pieces shown in the photos.
